There was lots of shimmer, sparkle, and shine at the ultra-glam Holiday Schmooze party at Montrose-area event venue LifeHTX, complete with dazzling holiday decorations and lights.

Hosted by Greggory and Pat Burk, Monsour Taghdisi and Henry Richardson, Becca Cason Thrash and John Thrash, and Steve Summers and Glen Gonzalez, the evening raised over $150,000 for non-profit Legacy Community Health’s HIV/AIDS programs and services.

As the first few notes of Etta James’ "At Last" played for John Dascoulias and Clifford Pugh’s first dance, knowing nods, hugs and smiles broke out among the wedding reception guests. It was a moment more than two decades in the making, perfectly encapsulating their love story in song.

The start of many “how we met” stories often involves mutual friends, a party and an immediate spark. Such was the case for Dascoulias & Pugh, who met at party in the mid-'90s and just clicked. At the time, Pugh was a features writer at the Houston Post and the relationship prompted Dascoulias to avoid a certain section of the paper.

Donna Karan and Russell James are titans in the fashion world.

She's the designer and fashion mogul who sold her namesake brand and started Urban Zen to support her charitable interests and do super chic comfy wear and zen merchandise. He is the Australian-native, world-renowned photographer who has shot nearly every Victoria's Secret model on the planet.

Both were  in town recently to celebrate James' Nomad Two Worlds Foundation, which is designed to empower and promote the artistic expression of indigenous communities around the world. The cocktail party, which was held at the chic Life HTX, was co-hosted Karan, James and Fadila Kibsgaard, an Algerian born, Houston resident, who is the organization's honorary ambassador.

Guests turned out in their most whimsical costumes for the Clayton Dabney for Kids with Cancer Halloween Bash at chic Montrose event venue LIFEhtx.

The non-profit’s inaugural Halloween fundraiser was a huge success, helping raising funds for families facing the devastating loss of a child to terminal cancer by assisting with last wishes, family travel, household bills and more.

During the event, partygoers mingled as they enjoyed bites and drinks from Armando’s Catering and bid on silent auction items including a day of pampering at Fiori Spa and floor seats for a Houston Rockets game. All the while, floor-to-ceiling projections of Halloween scenes set the spooky backdrop.

Iconic fashion designer Donna Karan has always had a deep and abiding interest in global betterment and exploring the connection between body, mind and spirit. Since she stepped away from producing her namesake line in 2015, she has concentrated on her Urban Zen collection, which features a wide array of clothing, jewelry, furniture and accessories made by artisans from around the world.

Now she and noted fashion photographer Russell James have teamed up to headline a Houston fundraiser that promotes and celebrates indigenous cultures through art. The inaugural Nomad Two Worlds Foundation reception on November 3 at LIFEhtx will feature a cocktail hour, silent auction, performances by Native American and Australian Aboriginal musicians, and remarks by Karan and James.
